MIANDOAB
Miandoab City, with 1538 square kilometers has
covered 4.1 percent of the total area of
province and is the 11th city among other cities
of the province. It has 2 towns, 2districts, 9
villages and 143 rural districts. Its distance
from Urmia (Center of the Province) is 166
kilometers. Miandoab is situated in the southern
part of provine and its neighbors are Mahabad,
Bukan and Shahindezh. According to the census of
2002, the population of Miandoab is 239,806
accounting for 8.6 percent of province
population, 50.2 percent of its population live
in urban regions and49.8percent in rural areas.
In 1999, this city, compared to the other cities
of this province, had the second rank in farming
and horticulture, third in cattle and birds,
fourth in civil development and rural
renovation, fourth in communication, fifth in
industries, urban development, social and
welfare , sixth in pubic education, and seventh
in the physical education and youth affairs.
Around 30552 hectares of the farmlands are urban
irrigation agricultural products and 5556
hectares under dry farming. Miandoab has
favorable situation in apple production (annual
45338 tons ) and grapes (4236 tons).
Sugar beet is the most important product and
around 200 thousand tons of sugar beet are sent
to the sugar factories of the province each
year. 25.5 percent of the sugar beet of the
province is produced in this town.
